A Legacy of Quality, Value — and Fun

Brown Squirrel Furniture Warehouse began in 1971. The business is owned by the Matthews family, who have lived in Knoxville for generations. Doug Matthews, Sr. is a long-time veteran of the home furnishings industry since 1959. From day one, the Matthews family has been committed to running their company with emphasis on honesty and integrity. The Brown Squirrel employs an extended family of associates who share the Matthews' core business and personal beliefs. The store shares the same philosophy that drives giants like Home Depot and Lowes — buy quality goods in volume, and make it possible for customers to take home their purchase today.

Our Mission: Brown Squirrel provides quality home furnishings at excellent values with friendly, efficient service in an exciting, fun environment.

Our Community: We want to be an important asset to our community with a strong level of involvement and support for the good work that needs to be done.

Our Customers: We want our customers to enjoy their experience with Brown Squirrel, where they get excellent quality and value no matter the budget, and where our service meets or exceeds their fair expectations.

Our Company: Brown Squirrel needs to be a profitable and successful business to appropriately serve our associates, our customers and our community. We want to consistently reflect the integrity of our founder, Doug Matthews, Sr.

But along with providing great value, the Brown Squirrel has always had a playful side. The store mascot was originally featured in animated cartoon commercials, and for years, kids who visit the store have gotten balloons and coloring pages.  The Brown Squirrel is an avid contributor to charities including the Muscular Distrophy Association, the Red Cross and other organizations. The store regularly sponsors events for kids featuring visits from characters such as the Rugrats, Spongebob Squarepants, and The Brown Squirrel himself.

And the store has never forgotten its original purpose—to find the best values in home furnishings, and make them readily available to the public at the best prices.

See it. Buy it. Take it home today. That’s what you could do at the Brown Squirrel more than 30 years ago, and it’s still the reason you should visit now.
